Kate Hudson in New Boho Cardigan

Kate Hudson sporting the Twelfth Street Boho Cardi

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of celebrities sporting more down-to-earth & casual looks that I now find myself dressing down more and buying pieces like chunky knits, super-soft fleece jackets, & lux cashmere.  I’m not sure if the economy has pushed us towards these more cozy, yet stylish looks or if dressing more casually has a more every-day appeal with an unbeatable cool, girl vibe?  Let’s face it–nothing is more easy than throwing on your favorite pair of jeans, a chunky sweater style, and flat boots, and the designers have made it easy to find all of these pieces in fabrics, styles, and colors to make each and all of us happy.

October deliveries are in and the majority of our new inventory focuses around one of the biggest trends this season:  chunky knits.  However, other luscious sweater-inspired styles include the update to one of our favorite fabrics–French Terry.  The carefully updated & polished styles are being offered up in so many different silhouttes & cozy fabrics that one will not be short on ideas on how to achieve this look.

Recently inspired by “The New Casual” an article in October’s People StyleWatch, I am offering up our favorite styles that can be found at shopchantal.com& chantal.

Tattered Elizabeth Blazer

KNIT JACKETS & COATS:  The perfect way to create a sophisticated vibe while still rocking this cozy trend.  Elizabeth & James has created the Tattered Elizabeth Blazer that when paired with a tee & jeanscreates that casual vibe, but when glammed up with Nanette Lepore’s Too Hot Skirt &  Stage Door Shell your look is instantly appropriate for evening!

STYLISH FLEECE:  The perfect compliment for your everyday look!  Splendid’s Vintage Fleece Hoodie shown here with a burnout from Sharon Segal & a distressed skinny style from [BLANK] is the perfect way to sport this not just for the gym style!

Juliette Vest

FURRY VESTS & JACKETS:  Joie’s Glimmer Faux Fur Vest is our pick for this trend!  However, due to it’s larger than life presence we recommend keeping the rest of your ensemble simple by pairing it back to skinny jeans and boots.  Another way to achieve a similar look without the “fur” is to pair your favorite leggings & boots back to Joie’s Juliette Sweater Vest.  Still very much so on trend due to it’s chunky quality!

CAT Cassidy Boot

Finally, when accessorizing your laid-back look, pair with a great flat boot to keep the comfort level high!  We are loving CAT’s Cassidy Boot that looks like you’ve been wearing them for years due to the distressed leather and wooden, stacked heel.

Fashion Week: Emerging Trends for Spring 2010

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Simply put, I love September!  The weather isn’t hot, muggy, and unbearable, and I can finally wear some of my favorite Fall pieces (blazers, sweaters, and boots).  However, what is most exciting about September is Fashion Week and the abundant amount of media coverage about the runway shows, future trends, and celebrity sightings.  It’s a bit crazy to think that all of us within the retail world are now becoming obsessed with Spring 2010′s hottest designers, best trends, and key pieces while Fall & Winter collections are still being delivered!

Let’s just say, most of us who are fashion manic have a little bit of A.D.D. when something new & fresh and not even available to wear is being shoved in our faces–it’s true, “you always want what you can’t have!”  and isn’t this the truth after seeing both BCBG’s and Rebecca Taylor’s runway shows on style.com.

So what’s in store for Spring?  One dominant trend still focuses around body conscious silhouettes that display the female form in a toned down 80′s inspired way.  This fall the 80′s have been popping up all around us in the way of strong shoulders, form fitting dresses, and sheer cutouts; some of the looks have been a little extreme and leave some wondering, “Who is wearing that where?”.  Don’t get me wrong, I am loving the sheer cut-outs throughout the BCBG collection and am salivating over a pair of Rebecca Taylor’s slouchy, cropped pants that remind me a bit of MC Hammer, but believe these silhouettes are a bit more youthful than dramatic, a breath of fresh air.

Polka dots are popping up throughout the shows, and Rebecca Taylor was right on board!  Pairing her signature florals and ruffles back to a subdued polka-dot blazer was unexpected, yet extremely flirty & fun!  And for those that must know what colors to expect–think Americana!  Known for their preppy vibe–Navy & White were a huge rage even throughout the more edgier collections.  Also, good news for those who love stripes–your in luck, rugby stripes made their fair share of appearances down the runway.

To sum it all up, I can’t say it better than Rebecca Taylor, herself, “I want to see shoulders, waists, and legs this (Spring 2010) season.”  Shoulders, waists, and legs we will see as the dominant silhouettes were dresses, shorts, and rompers!
