I’m a huge fan of www.whowhatwear.com  and just had to post this page from their website showing “runway to real way“.  It’s one of my favorite things they do on their site. What I like so much about this post is that our focus this season at shopchantal.com is all about “mixing it up”.

Seen here, this “Gossip Girl” actress (“Eva”) pairs together a beaded blazer over a long tee with velvet trouser and motorcycle boots.  What a great look and so easy to do.

We’ve always love the pairing of different designers, but the pairing of different textures and prints is giving us newfound freedom with our styling.

Mix together a Faux Fur Jacket with a Joie beaded top for an unexpected pairing of textures.  Add some dark denim from DL1961 for the perfect updated style.

Mix your sequins with suede for a more casual look.  We love the Nanette Lepore Star Gazing Top paired with the Botkier Prince Crossbody (shown as clutch) in Navy Suede and the Joie Coachella Over-the-Knee boot in Mud.  Yes, you can mix your suedes – it’s so fresh.

Leather and Lace have had a long standing relationship, but not always in the most sophisticated of ways. This season is different with the Ladylike trend leading the way in how we are wearing our dresses and what accessories are appropriate.  This Nanette Lepore dress and the Joie Lace Dress are two beautiful, ladylike dresses that can be paired with leather in a way that is chic and totally acceptable. Belts are an obsession at shopchantal and now with all the exotic skins, studded details and even zippers, we are going crazy with this pairing of leather with lace. Clutches and bags are another great way to “mix it up”.

Have some fun with our new Generra Velvet leggings too.  We love mixing the texture of velvet with a silk Elizabeth and James Tokyo Top and a wool military jacket from Rebecca Taylor. Worn with the Pour la Victoire bootie, this is one look you will wear over and over again.

It is one of the most fabulous season’s for boots – Over-the-knee, Fringe Detailed, Riding, Motorcycle and the staple of every winter season in the Northeast: the Rugged boot.

Our favorite designers did not disappoint this season. We have every style you need to get you thru Winter and in most cases, well into Spring.

Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent’s Reva Over the Knee boot could not be more perfect- it’s higher style and small heel are the perfect combination in a luscious black suede. Now: $276.50.

And, her riding inspired Watson boot is a Cognac leather color that cannot be riveled- it is so gorgeous and supple and so easy to wear that we found a ton of ways to pair it with everything from dresses to leggings. Now: $276.50.

Joie had one of the most coveted boots of the season in their New Orleans Motorcycle boot – it’s vintage leather and double buckles made this boot an easy to wear trend.  Now $325.50.

Joie also did a great fringe style boot that is easy to pair with jeans and dresses without looking over the top.  The Rockefella Fringe boot is a gorgeous Mushroom Suede with a heel height perfect for a shorter boot style. Now on Sale: $276.50

A newcomer to shopchantal, CAT (yes, as in Catapillar) Footwear stepped into the ring with a really cool Rugged Cassidy boot in a worn brown leather with buckle.  The best part is the sole- super easy to wear and great in the winter snow.  It just goes to show that you don’t have to give up style in these tough dressing months of winter. Now: $109.20.

It’s the perfect time to get one of these great styles that you can wear now and into Spring. Check out out lookbook for some great styling ideas too.

A Fall Must: Over The Knee Boots

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Due to my obsession with fashion, trends, and celebrity gossip, I tend to buy a lot of different types of magazines relating to the topics mentioned above:  People, People StyleWatch, Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Lucky Magazine and the list goes on and on.  One thing all of these magazines had in common in the month of August, and even into September, is their obsession with over-the-knee boots.  Not one color (though it’s best to stick to blacks, greys, and neutral tones) reigned, not one heel height sored above the others, and there isn’t one person that couldn’t pull of this look with sticking to a few, simple guidelines.

Reva Boot

Reva Boot

So I’ve done the homework for you, read up on all the ways to wear it and all the ways to NOT wear it and believe me, I think once you slip into a pair like Twelfth Street’s Reva Boot or Pour La Victoire’s version (expected soon at shopchantal & chantal.), it will be love at first sight.  As I know was the case for my father’s good friend who can’t stop ranting and raving about her most recent purchase of Twelfth Street’s version at the store (chantal. & www.shopchantal.com), and if she, at over 60 years old, can pull of the look with confidence, sex appeal, and sophistication then I know you can, as well.

Remember, this boot makes a statement all by itself, so keeping everything else pretty minimal will guarantee a flawless approach to wearing this trend.  I recommend wearing the boot with a matching colored tight (hence, black boots are a very sound investment) or tucking a skinny pant into them that will complement the color of the boot.  Keep the top a little longer as it will help to create a long silhouette between the height of the boot and the length of the shirt, Boyfriend Blazers & Tunic-style shirts work best for this.  Remember to add texture, not necessarily color to your look.  Too many bold things at once can turn into a big, loud mess, but pairing the boot back to a lush-textured piece makes the statement even more fabulous.
