Seeing Stars: Wearing this All-American Print

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Outfit  Star Print Bow Blouse: H&M, Pleated Mini Similar here, Turband: Gold Saturn, Necklace: Gemma Redux Beth, Pearls: Vintage, Bracelets, Botkier, Streets Ahead, Watch: Freelook, Sunglasses Georgio Armani Similar here, Faux Fur Vest: Rebecca Taylor: Similar here, Leopard Tights: Commando Similar here, Boots: Pour La Victoire, Clutch: Laura Merkin Similar here.

I’m still having lots of fun with wearing prints.  I know this star print is pretty subtle, but the bow got me and I had to have it. Paired with a full, pleated mini skirt made it the perfect afternoon lunch outfit.  I think once the real cold weather hits, I’ll pair this with a fitted blazer and add some polka dot tights. I’m loving this blush polka dot pair

There are lots of ways to wear the star print.  I found a dress version, a jacket and even tights in the fun, new updated take on a classic, all american print.

Hope you give this print a try. Let me know how you wear your stars!

Fall Trend to Try: Pops of Bright Color

Monday, September 19th, 2011

I tend to wear black more than brown or any other basic color, although I am madly obsessed with camel and always have been. But what I am really excited about is the opportunity to play with pops of bright color this season along with wearing my black or camel or even brown and grey.

When I saw this hot pink sweater with a black and cream stripe, I thought to myself, this will be the perfect way to wear Fall’s hottest trend – Pops of Bright Color. I ordered the sweater from Elle.com when they were doing a special online sale of H&M Fall Preview.  The silk, button up in bright purple is another H&M top. I added a pearl brooch which is somewhat feminine, yet a bit ManRepeller- inspired and a pair of Generra pleated cargo pants in a Almost black.

Whatever basic color is monopolizing your closet, here are some thoughts and ideas to help you wear this trend.

Dior Fall 2011

Brights with Black: Add Cobalt Blue, Hot Pink, Bright Purple and Turquoise. Even a bright tight with a solid black dress is an easy way to add in some color to your basic black.

I’m obsessed with this Fall 2011 Dior Runway look.  The gorgeous mix of Turquoise, Black and a rich Caramel color is absolutely unexpected, yet so stunning.

DKNY Fall 2011

DKNY Fall 2011

Brights with Brown: Add Bright Purple, Bright Coral and Neon Yellow, Red

I love the idea of this Yellow Trench Coat paired with brown slim cut trousers from J. Crew.

Brights with Camel: Add Orange, Red, Coral, Yellow

As seen here on the Fall 2011 DKNY runway: a mix of orange, red and camel is very sophisticated.

Brights with Grey/Charcoal: Add Cobalt Blue, Yellow, Orange, Purple

Emma Stone

Emma Stone

And let’s not forget about pairing Brights with Brights too. Everyone is going crazy for the hot pink and red pairing and I am right there with them. How absolutely stunning is this look on Emma Stone! Did you see Sarah Jessica Parker in Prabal Gurung wearing this same combination? It was and is perfection.

So, wear brights with your basics, wear brights with other brights.  The idea is that you try this trend and make it work for you.

Let me know how you are wearing this trend.

The Leather Short. Which way will you wear it?

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

The one piece that I was looking forward more than anything this fall is the leather short.  I realize that to some a leather short is a bit of reach, but for those willing to take a chance and try them, we promise you will not be disappointed.

The Joie Denver Leather Short is a beautiful piece that is so wearable.  It is just how you choose to put it together.  It needs to worn in a way that best reflects you and what you feel the most comfortable wearing.

To give you some ideas, we styled this Hot Fall Trend 3 ways.

Classic – a style that never goes out… of style. The key is the downplay of the pieces and up play of the accessories.

Wear the short to work with a little jacket or out for a day of shopping with some short, flat boots.  Top with a button up shirt by Elizabeth and James,  a fun statement piece of jewelry (we chose a Streets Ahead belt) like Gemma Redux or a simple glass bauble ring from TRE, add a wide, strappy heel and a grocery style bag from Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent.

For Night – Perfect for a date night out or a girls night on the town.  We love this Graham & Spencer Lace Back Cami because the lace is subtle, yet sexy.  Not sure you want to share the lace? throw on a Blazer.  This whole outfit is so on-trend with Leather and Lace. The Pour La Victoire Short Bootie is a great way to toughen up this really girly look.

This look would be great with a open toe bootie as well.

For Day – The cool Fall days and nights are quickly upon us so we love that these shorts are super versatile when paired with a tight.  We chose a patterned style (stylists own), but you can do an opaque Plush tight too.  The military-esque details on this Rebecca Taylor sweater is perfected with it’s soft lilac color.  Another way to wear the popular military style  - YOUR way.  Pair this cozy, easy yet sophisticated look with a rugged bootie or an over the knee, flat boot (available soon at shopchantal.com and in store at chantal.).

A statement bag is a must for all these looks.  A gorgeous gold studded Crossbody bag from Treesje or if you dare, the Botkier Ava Slouchy Hobo in Metallic Mermaid would be amazing.

Have fun with fashion this Fall.  Check out our lookbook and trends sections for more fabulous ideas.  We are updating the layouts and look of the site too.

And you can always visit us at the store. We love and live for helping customers try new looks.

Proportion Report: How to wear the Slouchy, Cropped Pant

Fall Trend: Slouchy, Cropped Pants

Voluminous, slouchy, and incredibly flattering (when worn the right way)–the new & cropped take on menswear inspired fashion should come with a buyer’s manual.  Worn with the wrong pieces, this high-fashion item can turn into a not so graceful ensemble.  Thankfully, we have taken the time to create a sort of “how to” guide to creating looks that won’t leave you looking like a fashion disaster, but will make you feel cool, confident, and timelessly classic when putting this trend back to all the RIGHT items.

First things first, if you haven’t snatched up a pair, you will need to do so.  Elizabeth and James, becoming a cult favorite amongst all of us at shopchantal.com, has created our “it” slouchy version.  The Suiting Flat Front Peg Pant is the perfect shade of charcoal making it a versatile choice!

Shown here with Walter’s Chestnut Multi Plaid Tunic, a studded belt, and Pour La Victoire’s Blanche Heel, The Suiting Flat Front Peg Pant is worn both effortlessly & edgy.

The secret to pulling off this look is to balance the proportions of a relaxed, slouchy pant with a slim-fitting top that should be worn tucked in, if the top doesn’t fit snug right at the waist.  Some other important factors to keep in mind include:

1.  Best worn with heels, the slouchy pant can look a bit messy when worn with a flat shoe.  The heel brings a sort of “heightened” illusion to the silhouette that gives your body a longer and leaner look.

2.  Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize:  Due to it’s menswear-inspired nature, the pant should be paired with bold jewelry, studded accessories, and always a statement belt to create a polished, feminine look that doesn’t skip a beat.

3.  When layering on top with a slouchy pant,  keep in mind to not add too much bulk on top!  Graham and Spencer’s Modal Slub L/S Tee under their Washed Silk Cami creates a group of thin layers that won’t overpower the slouchy fit on the bottom.

When keeping these simple “rules” in mind, the slouchy pant is extremely flattering by disguising not so flattering areas of the hip, thigh, and butt while being super comfortable due to the level of freedom and movement the relaxed shape gives to the wearer.

Transition Time: Make your summer pieces last longer

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

We have grown to love Fall here in the Northeast- mostly because it is an extension of Summer for us! Some of our hottest days are during transition into fall. That’s why we really love to make our summer pieces last longer while getting in on the amazing first fall deliveries (I think they are always the best!).

Here are some ideas to help you style your Summer pieces with New Fall items.

1. Boots, boots, boots.  Tall, short or in between.  Boots are a great way to show your fashion forward sense.

2. Layering. Definitely plan to layer jackets and vests over your strapless or cami style pieces – including dresses.

3. Add a scarf.  A scarf can truely give you a style lift as well as some extra warmth on a cool fall day.

4. New Handbag.  It really is best to switch up your bag for fall.  Nothing looks sillier than a floral cotton bag paired with a fall outerwear.

Our favorite look for fall.  A strapless dress by Shoshanna, layered with the hottest trend of the season: a boyfriend blazer by Elizabeth and James, a pair of tall boots from Twelfth Street and a beautiful winter white handbag.

Another great look: Beau Soleil’s Black Beau Slouch dress paired with a pair of Joie Fringe Boots and a Nanette Lepore cropped coat in Iris and a Graham & Spencer Scarf.

Both outfits are a great mix of the best trends of the seasons and are all available now at shopchantal.com.
