Spring 2012: 8 Trends to Look for & Buy Now #5

January 22nd, 2012 by Chantal Young

This is part FIVE of an ongoing series to get you thinking about buying some pieces now that will surely be hot trends for Spring.  This is one of my favorites because it can be worn in so many different ways with so many different pieces from dresses to skirts to tops and jackets.  And, as you may already know from my Outfit of the day postings on Instagram, I do love me some stripes.

Spring 2012 Must-Try Trend: Sporty Chic

A combination of preppy and sporty-  beyond the basic locker room sensibility-  this trend is pulled together in a sophisticated way with its mixed us of ”hard” fabrics like techno-like and neoprene, combined with soft drapey (think lux sweatshirt) fabrics, silks and soft leathers. The use of racing stripes of color and combinations with soft greys, taupes and navy all make it work.

I love dressing up, but sometimes I just want to go casual, but still wear a trend. Here are a couple of wears to go casual and still be sporty chic.

Gap did an amazing  collection for Spring and has many items available now that have the Sporty Chic vibe. My favorite look pairs a sporty stripe sweater and bright ponte blazer with basics that every girl has in their closet: skinny denim, a button up shirt and oxford flats.  I’m not a sneaker fan, but I’d pair this Gap look with some sleek sneakers or edge it up with a pair of metallic Converse low tops.

Not quite sure you want to take it to such a casual level? How about incorporating a  Rag & Bone leather skirtwoven sandals from Alexander Wang and a Marc by Marc Jacobs slouchy leather bag in the hottest hue for Spring – Yellow with  Jason Wu’s Varsity Wool Sweater. This is also great way to wear the trend now and into those cool Spring days.  I’d also pair this sweater with sleek, racing stripe trousers by 10 Crosby and towering platforms for a sporty chic look with an edge.

The Spring 2012 Runway had a field of Sporty Chic looks ranging from Alexander Wang to VPL and my favorite French girl, Isabel Marant. Below, Marc Jacobs gives us preppy yellow with butter leather for a new twist on texture. While BCBG brings on the red stripes for a dress I can imagine styling every which way. The addition of a techno fabric sporty jacket takes Altuzarra’s famous florals to a whole different realm. How will you be wearing the sporty chic trend?

This series will continue over the next couple of weeks so sign up to subscribe, follow my tweets  and “Like” me on Facebook  and Follow me on Instagram to see my Outfit of the Day. Trust me, you don’t miss a single post in this series.  It is vital to your Spring shopping plans.

Spring 2012: 8 Trends to Look for & Buy Now #4

January 16th, 2012 by Chantal Young

There was certainly no confetti surrounding my New Year’s Eve party this year, but there was perhaps some potato chip crumbs.  Whichever was the case for you, it’s time to dust them off, vacuum them up and move on to a year that is sure to fantastic all around – especially in the world of fashion.

Spring Trend Must Have #4: Cool Collars

Equipment Daddy Blouse

 What to Buy:

The look of the classic white collared shirt is back, but this time around, designers have added a twist; taking the classic  to another level and I love it.  It’s one thing to wear a gorgeous shirt, but when there is the added splash of a beautiful collar, it’s hard to resist trying. The floral trend for Spring is certainly not shocking, in fact, it is quite expected. What is fresh this season is how and where the floral is used.

Equipment is the go-to line for beautiful silk and crepe de chine button up shirts for women. Their amazing fits, use of color and now the addition of floral collars makes them even more swoonworthy.  This bright pink button up will be amazing right now with some high waisted red pants , but come this Spring, a white pencil skirt will add a level of sophistication. If you are interested in more of Equipment basics, check here for a great selection.

The Embellished Collar is another way to add a cool collar look to your new Spring purchase list.  Tibi did an amazing black collar with classic white shirt look that is jaw dropping. The details are not only a gorgeous addition to the shirt, but also add some sparkle an jewels to every look – no need for lots of accessories with an embellished collar. Available at Net-a-Porter.

There are alternatives if you are looking to spend a little less or want more opportunities. Two of my absolute favorite ways to wear a cool collar is to add it myself. Detachable  collars are a great way to add some edge to a more feminine crew neck tee or a manderin collar shirt or dress. Whether you like a sweet, peter pan collar, a metallic silver pointed tip collar or a black leather collar, you have to give this option a try.

And jewelry as a collar is just one more reason to add some spectacular designers to your  collection. DANNIJO is a must have jewelry line and their collar versions are beautiful and worth the money.

The Runway for Spring 2012 was abound with options from designers ranging from Proenza Schouler, Rachel Roy and Karen Walker and many more.  I can’t decide which one I like best!

Spring 2012: 8 Trends to Look for & Buy Now #3

This is part three of an ongoing series to get you thinking about buying some pieces now that will surely be hot trends for Spring.  Enjoy and be sure to comment and let me know if there is a trend you’d like to hear more about.

Spring 2012 Must Have #3: Head to Toe Prints

Asos Floral Suit
What to Buy and How to Wear it.

I love the idea of wearing this trend!  Head to toe prints are not only fun to wear, but fun to shop for too. This Asos Floral Blazer and Floral Pencil Skirt is the perfect way to wear this trend and possibly the easiest. With the matchy-matchy two-piece, you can wear this look to work. It works great as separates, of course, paired back to denim, brights and whites.  I love the idea of a Flare Leg Jean from J.Brand with the blazer. Pair the skirt with a bright silk top from Diane Von Furstenberg for a great Spring look. And mixing these pieces with blacks and whites is an obvious choice for a classic look. Or how about trying these floral skinnies from Citizens of Humanity.

Feeling more daring when it comes to wearing prints? Check out these amazing looks for Spring 2012 Runway and get ready to embrace prints from top to bottom. Diane Von Furstenberg, Derek Lam and DKNY all show us how to wear the full on print trend and look full on gorgeous.

Too Much? Well, whether you prefer stripes from Ella Moss, Tribal prints from Milly, Sketch Florals from Robert Rodriguez or all of the above, you can simply wear this trend with a head to toe printed dress. I love this Diane Von Furstenberg Folie Dress with it’s mix of prints from top and bottom with a pop of color.  All are a great and easy way to wear the trend.

This series will continue over the next couple of weeks so sign up to subscribe, follow my tweets  and “Like” me on Facebook  and Follow me on Instagramto see my Outfit of the Day. Trust me, you don’t miss a single post in this series.  It is vital to your Spring shopping plans.

Spring 2012: 8 Trends to Look for & Buy Now #2

January 10th, 2012 by Chantal Young

This is part two of an ongoing series to get you thinking about buying some pieces now that will surely be hot trends for Spring. Enjoy and be sure to comment and let me know if there is a trend you’d like to hear more about.

Spring 2012 Must Have #2: The Peplum

The Spring 2012 Runway was abundant with peplum looks including feminine styles from Jason Wu (keep in mind, his Target Collaboration is out February 5), and from Cushnie et Ochs, with their more edgier take.

Asos Peplum Skirt

The peplum is a classic in my view. I have pieces ranging from dresses to leather t-shirt styles and I love how they accent the waist. They are always a great style to belt and I love the tops paired with skinny trousers.

What to Buy and What to Wear.

Whether you decide to wear a Peplum top like this adorable Alice + Oliva top , a Peplum Skirt like this Asos version or a full on Peplum dress (I love the leather details on this Cynthia Steffe), I encourage you to bring at least one peplum element into your Spring closet.

Even a jacket or blazer with a Peplum detail is a simple way to way the trend at work over a dress or with trousers. I love this Printed Peplum Blazer from Suno with it’s small print pattern – great for wearing with other prints and colors of the season.

I  hope you  will give this trend a try and somehow in corporate it into your closet for Spring.

This series will continue over the next couple of weeks so sign up to subscribe, follow my tweets  and “Like” me on Facebook  and Follow me on Instagram to see my Outfit of the Day. Trust me, you don’t miss a single post in this series.  It is vital to your Spring shopping plans.

Spring 2012 : 8 Trends to Buy Now & Wear Now Part 1

January 8th, 2012 by Chantal Young

There was certainly no confetti surrounding my New Year’s Eve party this year, but there was perhaps some potato chip crumbs.  Whichever was the case for you, it’s time to dust them off, vaccuum them up and move on to a year that is sure to fantastic all around – especially in the world of fashion.

Spring 2012 Must Have #1:  A Touch of Tangerine

3.1 Phillip Lim

I’ve been pushing orange on your for at least 6 months so, if you are a regular reader you most certainly have purchased something in the citrus range by now. And , if so, good for you because you are already ahead of the Spring trend.  Now you just need to style it right and wear it. Here are some looks to try and some suggested pieces to buy.

What to Wear and What to Buy:

If you haven’t picked up some of these juiced-hues, now is the time. I’m a lover of all accessories and encourage you to incorporate this trend with the addition of colorful bracelets, belts and shoes. If you are daring enough, I would suggest these a gorgeous pair of tangerine colored trousers- wide leg and high waisted like this style from Jenni Kayne. Pair with some neutral shoes and a beautiful printed floral top for a complete Spring look. Or reverse the look and wear Leopard loafers and an equally bright top from Equipment.

Or why not try an orange blouse? Paired with some leopard jacquared pencil pants; this combination from 3.1 Phillip Lim defines chic. I love the orange belt too- it adds some preppiness to the look.

The beauty of oranges and tangerine tones is how gorgeous they look with both neutrals such as camel, biege, grey and even winter white.  They also work  well with other bold colors such as hot pink - proven by Marc Jacobs, cobalt and navy blues and greens that are prevalent all over the Runway.

Shoes:

The Boutique 9 Piraya Sandals are the perfect way to subtly wear orange and be able to pair it with other colors or neutrals. I’d suggest a white skinny crop denim with a striped top for Spring.

I also love these  classic Agnes Pumps from Jimmy Choo, this great pop of color with a winter white pencil skirt for now and in the Spring with the season’s new florals for a sophisticated, on trend look ala Jason Wu.

Gorjana Leather Studded Wrap

Accessories:

Jewelry is a more simple wear to wear the citrus colors and it is a so much fun to layer on- especially when it comes to bracelets.  Whether you go big with some chunky cuffs or small with a wrap or lots of bangles, this is a look anyone can wear to capture the trend.

Of course, a ring can add a powerful style punch when it is this beautiful 22 kt Gold and Orange Resin ring from Kenneth Jay Lane. I just love the shiny gold metal when mixed with Orange – it just screams “warmer weather” to me.

 Handbags:

And let us not forget, the option of adding color with a handbag.  There are many versions that I love for Spring that use orange in a colorblock style- and work beautifully.

If you haven’t seen the Bag Snob for DKNY collaboration, now is the time to get one of these bags while you can.  I adore this Treasure bag with it’s ladylike top handle. It is perfect for work and on the weekends.

Diane Von Furstenberg

My second is the Diane Von Furstenberg Harper Laurel Colorblock Leather Tote. The punch of citrus paired with creamy white leather and black would be perfection as a Spring bag – especially if you like to keep the option of wearing black close by all year long.

However you decide to bring these juice-color into your closet now and into the Spring, remember to wear it your way and embrace the fun in styling with accessories.

Inspiration: 4 Stylish Ideas for 4 Different New Year’s Eve Parties

December 27th, 2011 by Chantal Young

There are always party invites for NYE and with the momentous event taking place on Saturday night this year, there is even more reason to step it up in the Fashion department. Here are 3 very different party outfit ideas for 3 very different evenings. But one thing these looks all have in common is that they all help you ring the new year in -  tremendous style.

The Neighborhood NYE Bash

I love the casual NYE party, having grown up with this style my whole life, I think they are the most endearing way to celebrate. And you don’t have to forget about style just because you are at home.  My mother and all the neighborhood ladies would certainly take advantage of any opportunity to dress up and this was no exception.

I love this entire look from Tibi. It’s perfect for an neighborhood party.   The Metallic Cardi sweater adds a bit so shimmer to a splash of this royal blue, matte leather pencil skirt.  Great combination of color and texture!  I’d love it paired with a leopard coat, and these beautiful Giuseppe Zanotti Pointed Toe Nude Patent Wedges for an amazing entrance.

Cocktail Party Celebration

A late evening of cocktails and candlelight deserves a look that will twinkle as you ring in the new year. And you will certainly light up the room in this Asos Embellished Sleeve dress. It is sure to turn heads and look stunning from every angle in every photo opportunity that comes your way.An Affair to Remember

An elegant, late night dinner and hours of dancing topped off with numerous champagne toasts deserves a NYE look to remember. These Python pumps from Alexandre Birman are the perfect accessory to make a statement that you are ready to take charge of 2012.

Celebrating in the Elements

Sometimes we need to spend our NYE outside, watching a ball drop or just walking from one party to the next. I love the idea of wearing sequins, but instead of the traditional top, I thought why not a pair of Express Sequin Leggings!  This way you can sparkle and glitter in all the lights even when you are outside. Plus, you can then wear this gorgeous French Connection Fit & Flare Coat and bright colored Asos Faux Fur Lapel. The bright color of the lapel paired with the  Agent Provocateur red leather and leopard gloves is a great way to make sure your date and friends know exactly how to find you in the crowd.  And no evening out on the town is complete without a stunning, crossbody bag (free hands are a must for all the cheering and clapping you will be doing). No one makes a more stunning, classic statment than this Jas MB Melissa Shoulder Bag.

Ring in a Fashionable New Year and Celebrate in Style in 2012.

December 26th, 2011 by Chantal Young
Alexander Wang Caroline

I am so into the spectator pumps and these Alexander Wang Caroline Cap Toe Booties are  the perfect look and style to get me through this season.

Robert Clergerie Leather Buckle Wedge

I adore the color of this leather and the curved toe on the platform wedge of this Robert Clergerie Leather Buckle Wedge Bootie. Great with denim, but I picture it with dresses and long skirts.

Tory Burch Robinson Mini Patent Leather Shoulder Bag

Beyond the amazing sale prince this Tory Burch Robinson Mini is available in 4 colors only making this decision more difficult! Maybe 1 of each?

Elizabeth and James Sterling Spiral Ring
I’m always on the look for beautiful and interesting shapes in rings and this Elizabeth and James Spriral Ring has texture, sprial shape and a snake like appearance – all things I love.

There are so many amazing deals at the Saks sale!  Don’t miss out.
The sale ends December 27th at Midnight when the sale prices will go back to original prices.
Enjoy!

Inspiration: Ideas to Take You from Work to the Holiday Work Party

December 15th, 2011 by Chantal Young
We all have the variety of holiday parties that we look forward to each year and… some that we don’t.

The most difficult party to dress for has to be the Holiday Work Party.  As much as it is usually the most fun party of the season, it is most likely, the most stressful.

Well, this year, let’s forget the stress part of it and dress for the fun of it. I found some amazing, sophisticated and some whimsical dresses that I think would be perfect even if you have to go from work right to the party.  Enjoy.

Asos Fit & Flare in Red

Everyone loves a pop of color and the fit & flare style is so great on all body types. I’d wear this to work with a black turtleneck and boots. For a work party, I’d bring out a Baublebar bold, chain link necklacesuper high heel TopShop Wedges and a sparkle clutch.

Elkin Noir Dress

I love the idea of a simple, black dress.  It really is the perfect opportunity to show your accessories - especially those that might not be great to work in (ahem, faux fur vest), but look amazing at a work party set against a classic LBD.

Erdem Cherie Tweed Dress

The cowl, the tweed and the pencil skirt all scream to be worn at a work event. Worn with a blazer and tights, this could easily go from work day to evening with the change of shoes , a gorgeous CC Skye cuff and an offbeat color,  Maje clutch.

Asos Pencil Dress in Colorblock
I adore colorblocking and the sporty style of this dress is great for a really casual work party. I’d par a little, cropped sequin jacket over it for an evening party, but if you are just going out for beers at the bowling alley, throw on some boots, a arm full of bracelets and a Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac crossbody bag to keep it simple.

I adore this look for a fun and easy outfit to wear to any holiday work party.  Pair the Scatter paillette pencil skirt with a Chambray shirt, colorful heels and add the slouchy hat  for a cool, casual vibe.
All from J. Crew

This One vs. That One: Which Faux Leopard Do You Want to Curl Up With?

December 1st, 2011 by Chantal Young
 Today’s Featured Must Have Trend:
Long Faux Leopard Print Coat

TopShop Vintage Faux Leopard Coat $200.00

By Marlene Birger Rufe Faux Leopard Coat $895.00

As I mourn the disappearance of my beloved Leopard Print Coat from years ago, I feel like the time is right to find a replacement. My missing leopard coat is a mystery that may never be solved but, I am ready to move on with a new, updated version. I’ve seen several including one at Old Navy that was very cute, however, these versions are really making me swoon.

I think the deciding factor is the actual print, itself. Many of the cuts are the same and the detailing is similar, but the prints vary considerably from very dark to very light.  I am looking for a softer, lighter color version that I can wear well into Spring.  Here are two gorgeous versions I’ve found on the opposite sides of the budget spectrum.  I love them both, but not sure which to choose?

The gorgeous By Marlene Birger, who can do no wrong when it comes to outerwear, or the more reasonably priced version from TopShop  that has very clean lines and a beautiful print. Sometimes the price does not make the decision and I think for me, this is one of those cases. What do you think?

Looks + Trends: Editorial Inspiration

November 30th, 2011 by Chantal Young
Sometimes fashion and lifestyle editorials can seem a bit “out there”, but that’s why we love them so much, right.  The looks, whether outfits or rooms or even hair/makeup, need to be eye catching and over the top.  They are  meant to be inspiring. Real personal style is about taking their on trend pieces and creating a look that shows your true self. We are not meant to copy the looks in editorials, but to interpret the creativity of them.

Sometimes all you need to do is take an element or even just the overall feeling of a look to really make it fashionable.  I have a huge “inspiration” board in my office filled with all kinds of beautiful images and the recent fashion editorial “Cast Away”  in Marie Claire, December 2011 issue was added to the board with all its amazing combinations of colors and prints. I love the entire spread, but found the look below most inspiring and suited to what I would wear.

I took a few of the elements of this innovative look and put together my own interpretation.  It’s obviously not as impactful as the orange leggings, but I think the important thing is that I took elements from the look; a neon yellow t-shirt, leopard cuff and mixed prints. It’s the way I styled these pieces that gave me a look that I love and would feel comfortable wearing anywhere.  I would have totally paired my look with my new Orange Skinny jeans  if I had them at the time. They are really bold and fun so, be prepared to see them soon.

My interpretation using elements from the Marie Claire editorial

Looking to add some of these elements into your closet?  I’d love to see your interpretation of this look. Here are a few ideas to help you get the look. You can take one or you can use them all- it’s up to you. The point is to give it a try and see what you come up with. Enjoy.  xo

Beauty & Scents: The new DIANE Fragrance from DVF

November 27th, 2011 by Chantal Young

It’s official. I absolutely love the new fragrance “Diane” from Diane Von Furstenberg. I received my bottle last week and immediately went spray crazy (I am French, after all) and I’ve been wearing it everyday since.

I think a scent is an intimate relationship and as much as I’d like to say I’m committed to just one, I’m not. I really enjoy wearing different scents depending on my outfit and my attitude of the day. So, this fragrance and my continued interest in wearing it day after day, is quite surprising. I think we’ve gone beyond a crush to full blown love. Yes, it happens that fast sometimes. This fragrance is exactly what it says it is: Feminine, powerful and seductive.

I think this is an amazing gift for any woman in your life and feel free to pass along this blog post to those wishing to receive vs. give.

This eau de toilette is an elegant fragrance that contrasts the blossoms of frangipani and violet against the sensuality of patchouli, myrrh, and musk.

The eau de parfum elevates this fragrance’s concentration, amplifying the uniqueness and the character of the scent while highlighting distinctive ingredients such as patchouli, frangipani flower, and violet.

Available in Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette and in 2 sizes: 1.7 oz and 3.3 oz.

What is your favorite scent these days?

P.S. Just in case you ever wondered. . . The difference between parfum, eau de parfum and eau de toilette/cologne is simply the amount or concentration of oils in the fragrance. These oils are called “juice.” The highest concentration of “juice” is in parfum, followed by Eau de Parfum, then Eau de Toilette, and lastly Eau de Cologne.

Trends: 7 Boot Styles You’ll Actually Want to Wear This Winter

November 21st, 2011 by Chantal Young

1.Black /White works in the Totes Ella Boot. A white boot in Winter?  Why not, after all snow is white (for part of the season) and the black rubber sole and faux fur lining make these ideal for walks around town. And I love the quilted detail paired with a clean, dark skinny jean or opaque black tights. Available at Kohls.com  (Also available in Black).

2. Fashion Girl Favorite. Yves Saint Laurent Shearling-lined suede ankle boots.  I know, I know.  These may not seem like the ideal winter boot, but we can’t trudge around in traditional boots all the time. These are a great boot for the cold days when the snow is piled high all around us, yet the sidewalks are clean and clear. Plus they are shearling lined. Wear with a gorgeous dress and long, chunky cardigan. Available here.

3. Utilitarian Luxe. Nothing says East Coast like the Duck Boot.  And this season, Tory Burch takes this classic version to another level by designing it in Leather and Shearling, not the traditional rubber. This utilitarian style does have a gripped rubber sole making them perfect in snow and rain. I think the key to wearing the Duck boot is staying away from anything flannel and fleece and opting form more lux fabrics like cashmere, leather and faux fur. Available at  Net-a-Porter.

4. Cozy at a Great Price. The Old Navy Faux-Fur Trim Winter Boot is an affordable way to wear the traditional Duck Boot with a little fashion thrown in for good measure and warmth.  This lace-up version is a rubber and faux suede boot, lined in sueded fleece with a textured sole.  Certainly puddle- jumping is not needed with these. Pair with a long, chunky knit sweatersweater tights and a classic Old Navy vest.

5. Arctic Sophistication is the Sorel Cate the Great boot.  With all it’s features and the look of a true cold-weather boot, this one is sure to please for seasons to come. A lace-up boot with waterproof full grain and suede upper,  handcrafterd vulcanized rubber shell; all seams sealed. A removeable, recylced felt innerboot is great for warmth all the way to your toes. Wear this boot with skinnies and a hooded parka, faux fur hat and some serious mittens. Available at Piperlime.com.

6. Patent Wedge Love. It may not seem practical, but these Marc Jacobs Patent Wedge Boots are surprisingly perfect for those Fashion must meet Function days: with its black-patent leather and cream rubber sole and shearling lining. Pair with patterned tights . Available at Net-a-Porter.

7. A Pop of Color is one more reason to love these Columbia Heather Canyon Boots. As if you need one more reason – the fabulous features are already a mile long including my favorite; the Faux fur lining. Plus, it features a shield advanced barrier that repels water and stains, a removeable footbed, lightweight and flexible shell and a non-marking rubber compound lug tread for maximum traction in the snow.  This is definitely a boot made for serious winters, but also for a serious fashion girl – did you notice the orange sole!   The price is also very budget-friendly. Available at Zappos.com.

I hope you found a style you like at a price you like.  I have a couple of styles in my carts already. What about you, which boot is your must have?
